Biathlon #1 - 8 Mar 2020

‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ must be the collective view of the fifteen people who pitched up for the Club’s second race of the 2020 season. While the wet weather is unable to deter this crew from getting their exercise fix, it is enough to cancel the cycle leg, thereby converting the planned triathlon to a biathlon. It comprises a 2.5km run, 1.0km swim and 5.0km run.

As the race begins the rain conveniently stops and thirty sneakered feet start bounding through the course. From the start, Shaun Greenblo enters first place and doesn’t relinquish control for a moment. He crosses the finish line in 46:16 having run sub 4-min/kms and swum at 1:39/100 metres. A short while later, Jarred Shein (50:28) stops the clock to secure second place followed by Michael Linton (51:44) who had reined in Tim Lindop (52:22) on the second run to lock in a spot on the podium.

In the female category, Jana Greenblo continues to operate ‘in a league of her own’ both as the only female entrant and with a superb performance. She cruises into the finish in 1:00:18 capping off a winning morning for the Greenblo family.

The rest of the field continue to tackle the course and stream into the finish where Craig Pager is brewing hot coffee for all. The barista, still nursing shoulder and hammy injuries, is a DNF today but only after shuffling the first 2.5km and then swimming the 1.0km using one arm! Epic effort.

Well done to all for braving the wet conditions and ensuring a solid hit out.
